The Grumman F-14 Tomcat, a twin-engine, variable-sweep-wing aircraft, could reach supersonic speeds. It was operated by the US Navy and Iran's air force, with a crew consisting of a pilot and a Radar Intercept Officer who shared tasks like navigation, target acquisition, ECM, and weapons usage. The Tomcat's name is believed to originate from Vice Admiral Thomas Connolly's call-sign, following the USN's tradition of naming Grumman aircraft after felines. F-14A Tomcat BuNo 159600, delivered in 1975, served in various squadrons, including VF-124 Gunfighters, VF-101 Grim Reapers, VF-142 Ghostriders, and VF-31 Tomcatters, until its final cruise in 2006, when it was named 'Christine' and became the longest-serving USN F-14.
